The Tsum Valley is a beautiful Himalayan valley situated north of Gorkha. The word ‘Tsum’ is derived from the Tibetan word ‘Tsombo’ which means clear. Due to its remoteness and inaccessibility, this beautiful valley is still undeveloped and the people are still following the old traditions and rituals, however their unique culture has remained intact. Against the majestic backdrop of the Ganesh Himal, Sringi Himal and Baudha Himal ranges, the trails to this serene Himalayan valley are strewn with artistic chortens and lined with mani walls made of thousands of stone slabs carved with drawings of deities and inscribed with prayers. The local people are mostly of Tibetan origin and speak a unique dialect and preserve ancient art, culture and religion. The valley is accessible via two routes: one passing through Chumchet and another from Lokpa. Both the routes involve steep ascents of over 1500 m. from the surface of the valley.
